Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked Long-Grain Basmati Rice
  • 3 cups Hot Water
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Chives

Equipment

  • Heavy-Bottomed Pot with a Tight-Fitting Lid
  • Fine-Mesh Sieve
  • Wooden spoon

Method

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear and drain.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add the rice and sauté gently for 2 minutes until coated and slightly fragrant.
  3. Pour in hot water, add salt and black pepper, stir once, and bring to a gentle boil.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover tightly, and simmer for 15 minutes until water is absorbed.
  5. Remove from heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
  6. Stir in sour cream and garlic powder gently until evenly incorporated.
  7. Fluff with a fork, garnish with fresh chives, and serve immediately.

Notes

Adding sour cream after the rice rests prevents it from curdling and keeps the texture creamy and smooth.
