- Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear and drain.
- In a heavy-bottomed pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add the rice and sauté gently for 2 minutes until coated and slightly fragrant.
- Pour in hot water, add salt and black pepper, stir once, and bring to a gentle boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover tightly, and simmer for 15 minutes until water is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let the rice rest, covered, for 5 minutes.
- Stir in sour cream and garlic powder gently until evenly incorporated.
- Fluff with a fork, garnish with fresh chives, and serve immediately.
Notes
Adding sour cream after the rice rests prevents it from curdling and keeps the texture creamy and smooth.
