Ingredients

For the Shrimp:
  • 1 lb large shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
For the Sauce:
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar optional
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger optional
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil optional, for extra flavor

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Tongs or spatula
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spoon for stirring

Method

  1. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the shrimp, season with salt and pepper, and sauté for 3 minutes per side, or until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and cook for 2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  3. Pour in the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Stir well, allowing the sauce to simmer and thicken for about 3 minutes.
  4. Return the shrimp to the skillet and toss them in the honey-garlic sauce, cooking for another 2 minutes, until the shrimp are evenly coated and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Garnish with sesame oil and serve immediately over rice, noodles, or as is.

Notes

  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
  • Reheating: Reheat in a skillet over medium heat to avoid overcooking the shrimp.
  • Variation: For a spicier dish, add red pepper flakes or a chopped chili to the sauce.
  • Safety Tips: Handle hot oil carefully, and avoid overcrowding the shrimp when sautéing.
