Chocolate Tequila Old Fashioned

The Chocolate Tequila Old Fashioned is a spirit-forward cocktail blending aged tequila with subtle cacao bitterness and restrained sweetness. Smooth, complex and warming, it’s a modern twist on the classic Old Fashioned template.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Añejo Tequila
  • 0.25 oz Rich Demerara Syrup 2:1 ratio
  • 2 dashes Chocolate Bitters
  • 1 dash Orange Bitters
  • Large Clear Ice Cube

Equipment

  • Mixing Glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Julep strainer

Method

  1. Chill a rocks glass in the freezer until cold.
  2. Combine añejo tequila, demerara syrup, chocolate bitters and orange bitters in a mixing glass.
  3. Fill the mixing glass with cold ice.
  4. Stir gently for 20–25 seconds until the mixture is chilled and slightly diluted without losing structure.
  5. Strain over a large clear ice cube in the chilled rocks glass.
  6. Express a thick orange peel over the drink, coating the surface with oils, then rest it against the ice.

Notes

  • Use minimal syrup-chocolate bitters already add perceived sweetness, and too much sugar will mute the tequila’s agave character.
  • Glassware: Rocks Glass
