Ingredients

For the Beef:
  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
For the Stir-Fry Sauce:
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch for thickening
  • 1 tsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger minced
  • ½ cup beef broth or water
For the Vegetables:
  • 4 cups broccoli florets fresh or frozen
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil for stir-frying

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Bowl (for marinating)
  • Spoon or spatula

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons soy sauce, rice vinegar, cornstarch, and sesame oil.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade and toss to coat. Let it marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, cornstarch, garlic, ginger, and beef broth. Stir well to combine and dissolve the cornstarch.
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the broccoli florets and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender-crisp. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  6. In the same skillet, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until the beef is browned and cooked through.
  7. Return the broccoli to the skillet with the beef. Pour the stir-fry sauce over the beef and broccoli.
  8. Stir to coat everything evenly and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.
  9. Serve the Beef and Broccoli immediately over steamed rice. Enjoy!
